How to Unlock The Perfect Pitch SMG in Destiny 2
The Final Shape, Destiny 2's latest and supposedly final DLC, is finally out. There are a bunch of brand-new weapons to collect, and among them is the Perfect Pitch submachine gun, "Echoes." Episodes are replacing the previous seasonal format, with three Episodes releasing in the coming year.
SMGs have been a hit-or-miss weapon type lately in D2. With the nerfs to the exotic Osteo Striga and aggressive-frame legendary SMGs like the Immortal Trials weapon, their use in both PvP and PvE has steadily declined since Lightfall. Hit particularly hard by this Nerf, SMGs fell out of use for both ad-clear and Trials usage, but devs are looking to bring them back in some capacity, as Perfect Pitch is a powerful ritual reward.

Destiny 2: Everything You Need To Do Before The Final Shape Expansion
With the final epic in Destiny 2's Light and Dark saga releasing soon, here is everything you should do to fully prepare to defeat the Witness.
How to Unlock The Perfect Pitch SMG in Destiny 2
Which Reputation Rank To Raise
To obtain Perfect Pitch, you must increase Shaxx, Zavala, or the Drifter's reputation rank in the Tower to Rank 16. With the new Pathfinder system, you can only progress your vendor rank by completing the vendor's associated ritual activity instead of bounties, so it will take a bit longer. By this time, you'll be a master of Destiny 2's Prismatic subclass, and this new weapon will be an awesome addition to your already powerful loadout.
The only way to get this weapon is to grind out ritual activities to increase your reputation rank with the ritual vendors.
By playing Crucible, Strikes, and Gambit, you'll gain a reputation with the vendor and unlock their rewards. Once you reach level 16, you'll be able to claim Perfect Pitch and a few other rewards.
Perfect Pitch God Rolls (PvP & PvE)
Perfect Pitch is this Episode's Pinnacle Reward, which means it only drops one curated roll. As there is no chance for random perks to roll on this weapon, its capacity for fluidity is limited. Here are the best perks to run if you're looking to run Perfect Pitch in PvE:
Column | Perk |
---|---|
First Column | Subsistence |
Second Column | Incandescent |
Origin Trait | Vanguard's Vindication |
Subsistencereloads your magazine from reserves when you defeat a target, making it suitable for spraying down groups of enemies. Incandescent is an excellent perk alongside Subsistence, spreading scorch to targets upon defeat.
Now, you can kill huge groups of enemies by Igniting them, and then Vanguard's Vindication will allow you to heal as you defeat enemies. Overall, these perks make Perfect Pitch an excellent weapon for ad-clear.
As for PvP, SMGs still don't really have a huge role in Crucible or Trials, but if you were going to use this one in either mode, here are the perks you should run:
Column | Perk |
---|---|
First Column | To The Pain |
Second Column | Onslaught |
Origin Trait | Gun and Run |
To The Pain is a new trait, which increases your handling and aim assist upon taking damage. This is super helpful in PvP, where aim is just as important as damage. Secondly, Onslaughtmeans that the final blows of this weapon increase its rate of fire, meaning that as you kill, you'll be able to do more damage per second.
Finally, the Gun and Run Origin Trait increases your sprint speed upon final blow. Combined with these three perks, you only need to kill and take some damage to become an actual threat on the battlefield.
No matter which roll of Perfect Pitch you end up with, you're sure to enjoy this and any of the new weapons that Destiny 2: The Final Shape will bring. SMGs had their day in the sun, and they've been lacking a bit since their nerfs, so lovers of the weapon type will be excited to hear that they might be making their return in Echoes. Once you've gotten your god roll, prepare yourself to take on the disciples of the Witness and prevent the Final Shape.
