Refectory Door Unlock Puzzle Solution - Baldur's Gate 3 (2024)

While working on the Explore the Ruins quest in Baldur’s Gate 3, you will come across a sturdy door in the Refectory area of the Overgrown Ruins. When attempting to open this particular sturdy door, your character will note the absence of a lock or handle and question how it can be opened.

It’s important to note that this door has two possible ways of opening, depending on which side you’re on. As such, in the following Baldur’s Gate 3 guide, we will provide you with all the information you need to unlock the Refectory door and learn what’s beyond.

Where to Find the Refectory Door in Baldur’s Gate III

You will encounter the Refectory door during the Explore the Ruins quest under the Nautiloid Crash Region category of your journal. There are two ways to access this door, either through the Dank Crypt or by using the Chapel Entrance above the ruins.

However, you must first defeat both the tomb raiders and the bandits in the Refectory in order to reach it if you go through the Chapel Entrance. So, if you lockpicked the Ancient Door near the Overgrown Ruins, you should reach this side of the Refectory door as shown in the image below.

First, let’s learn how to unlock the door from this side. Afterward, we can proceed to explore the other side too.

How To Unlock the BG3 Refectory Door

As you look around this tiny and dimly lit room, you’ll see not much to work with besides an altar with a handful of flickering candles. Nothing happens after interacting with them, and the door is still locked tight.

But if you look closely at each side of the door, you will notice two candles concealed in the dark.

Interact with each candle to light them up. The door will automatically open immediately after you light up the second candle. Be prepared to fight a gang of bandits. We recommended a minimum party of 4 members, each having at least level 2.

If you have reached the door through the Chapel Entrance area, whether by going through the hole on the floor or entering through the door at the back, it means that you have successfully defeated the tomb raiders and the bandits in the Refectory. In the southern part of the Refectory, you will come across a library with many books with lore.

Also, you will notice a statue of a mage with two unlit Iron Candelabrums on either side. Lighting up the candelabrums will reveal a hidden lever or switch located behind the statue, as shown in the image below.

Interact with this lever to open the locked Refectory door and access the Overgrown Ruins’ Dank Crypt area.

If it’s your first time inside the Dank Crypt, you should check how to disable the Sarcophagus trap puzzle before venturing inside and getting your party wiped out. That’s everything you need to know about how to open the locked Refectory door in Baldur’s Gate 3. If you found this guide helpful, be sure to visit our Wiki Hub Page for more informative guides.
