2. Lights, Camera, Action! – Odyssey Nursery (Jul 03 – Sep 01, 2024)

This summer at Odyssey, we’ve put together a creative concept called the Project focusing on bringing out the storyteller in each child. We will combine 5 different areas of self-expression, including art, music, drama, theater, and photography, and explore how each of these can build their self-esteem and spark their creativity. We will learn to play instruments, use our voice and body movements on music day and we will dance to the beats of Zumba, Salsa and Hip Hop with a dance expert.

Children will learn the basic techniques of using a camera, opening up their eyes to new perspectives. We’ll be able to see the world in their eyes, as they capture special sights and moments and explore why these are important to them. For this, we’ll be hosting an expert from Nikon Photography Club Kids.

The little ones will learn to not only make up stories but to act them out, boosting creativity, communication skills and even self-confidence The process of making theater by developing a story from start to end, how it is told, and what it means, will spark curiosity and invite them to think in multiple directions, promoting their divergent thinking skills. They will be performing a scene from a storybook as well as creating stories on stones. Art will involve creating handmade musical instruments and masterpieces unique to each child and we’ll be going on a field trip to Picasso Artists Club during the course of the summer camp. 28. Jameel Arts Centre Summer Arts Camp (July 7 – July 11 and July 21 – July 25)

Jameel Arts Centre is hosting a Summer Arts Camp for children ages 8-13 led by UAE artists and creatives.

The five-day-programme led by different artists every day takes place Sunday July 7, to Thursday July 11 (9:00 am – 4:00 pm) and repeated Sunday July 21, to Thursday July 25, (9:00am – 4:00 pm). The programme focusses on immersive hands-on learning workshops inspired by the Jameel Arts Centre’s exhibitions.

The daily sessions and exciting activities nurture creative learning through art thinking and making. Featuring regional art history, the workshops include exercises in mindfulness, drawing, collage, patternmaking, story-telling, zine-making and short-films, reading sessions on arts and creativity and an arts specific treasure hunt in the Centre. The fun-packed week includes a group collaboration where children spend time building together a large-scale cityscape installation made of upcycled material.

The programme will also include a carefully selected 50 minute screening of short films from the Looking Glass Film Club, a homegrown socially responsible film platform that screens cinematically-influential films for the youth through strategic partnership with international children’s film festivals and independent studios.

Care-takers are responsible for dropping off and picking up their children to and from the Jameel Arts Centre following the programme’s timings.

Children are required to bring their own lunch. Fresh fruit snacks and water provided.
